Places with Double Names
There are a number of places in the world that have doubled names, and I decided I wanted to make a list of them, and maybe visit them. I had assumed that most such places would be in and around Indonesia since languages common in that part of the world often pluralize by doubling words. Thus ‘orang’ means ‘man’ while ‘orang orang’ means ‘men’. Similarly place names with plural nouns tend to end up as double names.
When I started this list it hadn’t occured to me that there were also places that are double named because there are two nested geographic regions with the same name. I’ve decided to list them separately in the ‘Technicality’ section below.
