Hi there, my name is Stirling Westrup and this is my little spot on the web. As you may have gathered from the site header, I’m known as ‘Sti’ to my friends. Following the usual English pronunciation rules that makes ‘ski’ be pronounced ‘skee’, my nickname is pronounced ‘Stee’.
This site is built and maintained with PmWiki a wiki that I am using as a CMS (Content Management System). Its based on PHP, a language I’m not very fond of, but after an exhaustive survey of CMS systems looking for one that was light, fast, modular, flexible, extensible, well-maintained, and capable of hosting multiple domains and multiple wiki’s per domain with only one installed copy of the code, PmWiki was the hands-down winner.
I’ve been working with it on a large number of projects, and I really like it, to the extent that I’ve started writing my own recipes and skins to give back to the PmWiki community. Oh, and by the way, I’ve been playing around with the Recent Changes feature. It should now be easier to see what I’ve been changing on this site, by clicking on the “Recent Changes” menu item at the top left. Now it should only list things which are publicly viewable, rather than frustrating folks by listing things that aren’t visible.
Once the PmWiki blog software is out of beta, I may just port my various blogs over to this site and maintain them here. Speaking of my blogs, I currently have three of them, and am toying with the idea of adding a fourth.
First of all, we have Technaut’s Idea Forge where I talk about my many ideas for new products and services that I think would make for viable businesses. There is also a page describing the blog in more detail.
Secondly, there is Will Code For Food which explores my views on management and the running of a company in the new millennium. It also has a profile page describing it.
My last blog has the most content, but is perhaps the least interesting, as its my own personal journal. As such it contains a lot of minutia about my day-to-day life which is unlikely to interest anyone who doesn’t already know me.
I should also mention that I have a consulting company. We specialize in helping companies deal with the rapid changes brought about by new technology. You can think of us as your personal R&D Lab. Check us out.
